Clay and Moldmaking Program

1st week  -  Portrait    

Building an armature.  Study of anatomy.  Study of classical portraits.  Study of proportion.  Construction of a portrait. Techniques of clay modeling.  Students can work either from photos, plaster models of classical busts, or self portraits.  Visit to studios in Pietrasanta together with the marble carving group
2nd week - The Figure    Students will work from plaster copies of classical busts or of the figure or photos.  Live models can be utilized.  Visit to a bronze foundry and mosaic studio together with the marble carving group. 
3rd week - Bas Relief   Study of perspective in clay to obtain a greater three dimensional effect.  Students can work from plaster models, photos, and from drawings.  Visit to a professional  mold making studio.

During the second and third week students will make a plaster mold of their portrait and/or bust  and cast a positive from the mold.  Finished pieces in clay can also be fired and mounted on bases if required.   Pieces can be crated for shipping.

4th Week-Optional The workshops can be extended on request on an individual basis, allowing for in depth continuation of the workshop before the next session begins.

    Vazha Mikaberidze (Prasto) 
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia (ex Soviet Union),  studied sculpture in Russia and Florence, Italy. He has worked extensively in portraiture and monumental sculpture in clay, plaster and bronze.  Vazha has exhibited  since 1990 in Georgia, Italy and France.
